POS has helped 10+ water, wastewater, and toilet manufacturers design toilet products, enter new markets, and develop pathways to scale.  Point of Shift’s expertise lies in niche markets that require building from the ground up, creating both the product and customer demand.

Past Projects Include:

  • Developed a market entry strategy for a urine diversion toilet in the US
  • Determined priority entry markets and established pilot locations for a blackwater treatment system
  • Launched and opened a market for a circular portapotty company that converts urine into fertilizer
  • Developed and tested new product configurations for a waterless, mechanical toilet
  • Lead customer discovery process for self-treating toilet

Point of Shift Tools + Methodologies

Point of Shift leverages our research, tools, and direct customer experience to inform recommendations and strategies for companies. A sample of our tools and methodologies is shared below.

1. POS’s US Onsite Regulatory Code Database

Point of Shift has reviewed all 50 states’ wastewater regulations on both the state and local levels and created an onsite code database. This database includes information on piloting innovative systems (Map 1 below), blackwater tanks, compost toilets, and greywater recycling + reuse (Map 2 below) for each state. This information supports POS in determining pilot regions and favorable markets for new technology.

Sustainable toilets and alternative septic systems come in all shapes & sizes and are found throughout the world! Point of Shift is currently building a map of circular systems in the Americas.
